Know Your Trailer’s Limits:
Check the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) on your trailer’s VIN label. This is the maximum weight allowed for both the cargo and the trailer.
Subtract the trailer weight from the GVWR to find your maximum cargo weight.
Front/Back Load Scheme:
Aim to keep about 60% of the load in the front half of your trailer.
Avoid overloading the rear end, as it can damage the trailer and create hazards.
Left/Right Balance:
Distribute weight evenly from side to side to protect your trailer and improve stability.
Avoid excessive weight on one side.
Truck’s Capability:
Consider your truck’s GVWR as well. Ensure you don’t overload your truck’s towing capacity.
Hitch Weight:
Even your hitch has a maximum weight load. Overloading the tongue without a heavy-duty hitch can lead to accidents.
Remember, proper weight distribution prevents dangerous swaying and ensures a safer towing experience.
