Pre-Trip inspection

1. Inspect the Trailer and Vehicle

  • Check the Hitch: Ensure the hitch is compatible with your vehicle and trailer.

  • Inspect the Coupler: Make sure the coupler is in good condition and properly sized for the hitch ball.

  • Examine the Safety Chains: Verify that the safety chains are not damaged and are the correct length.

2. Prepare the Vehicle and Trailer

  • Align the Vehicle: Position your vehicle so that the hitch ball is directly under the trailer coupler.

  • Raise the Trailer: Use the trailer jack to lift the coupler above the hitch ball.

3. Connect the Trailer

  • Lower the Coupler: Carefully lower the coupler onto the hitch ball and secure it.

  • Lock the Coupler: Engage the coupler latch and insert a safety pin or lock to prevent it from coming loose.

  • Attach Safety Chains: Cross the safety chains under the coupler and attach them to the vehicle’s hitch.

4. Electrical Connections

  • Connect the Wiring Harness: Plug the trailer’s wiring harness into the vehicle’s connector.

  • Test the Lights: Check that all trailer lights (brake, turn signals, and running lights) are functioning properly.

5. Final Checks

  • Check Tire Pressure: Ensure the trailer tires are inflated to the recommended pressure.

  • Secure the Load: Make sure the load on the trailer is properly secured and balanced.

  • Double-Check Connections: Verify that all connections are secure, and nothing is loose.

Following this checklist will help ensure that your trailer is safely and securely attached to your vehicle, making your journey smoother and safer. Happy towing!
